Hello, my name is Bonnie Crawford. I am the owner of A.J.Photography™!
I am asked many questions every day about different aspects of my business and this career. Let me start out with telling you a bit about my experience and career as a Photographer!
"Photography became an interest of mine on the hobby level so long ago, I cannot remember! I started 'taking pictures' for family and friends about 9 years ago, and actually started studying and training in the art of light about 7 years ago! I started my professional career working in a corporate studio, where I entered as a Studio Associate and was soon promoted to Studio Manager. Although working at the studio was a fantastic experience in itself, and I will forever cherish the wonderful people I met and worked with, it just was not for me. After much self-debate, and discussion with my family, I chose to leave the studio and open my own business.
A.J.Photography™ was born on January 1, 2012!
So what does the 'A' and 'J' mean, you ask?
The ‘A’ represents my cousin Andrew, who by the age of 3 survived a heart transplant, by the age of 14 was fighting Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and unfortunately passed from this world before the age of 20. However, through it all, he always had a smile on his face and a hug waiting for anyone to receive, and never gave up his love for life.
The ‘J’ represents my Daddy, James. Other than the stating the obvious that I am definitely a Daddy’s Girl, he truly is my hero! My Dad is now in his mid-70’s, and has had one of the roughest roads in life that I have ever seen someone travel. However, my Dad has never given up. He did not get the luxury of getting a formal education, but he is the best mechanic, plumber, carpenter, electrician, provider, teacher, and protector I have ever known! My Dad has always been one of the kindest hearted people I have ever had the honor of knowing, and would literally give a person the shirt off his back if he felt they needed it more than he did. Even during the times in my life when not only everyone else had given up on me, and I was ready to give up on myself, my Daddy would pick me up by the proverbial belt loops, dust me off, and tell me to try again! My Daddy has always encouraged me to go for my dreams, work hard, be honest, and do the best I can, in whatever I do.
"For me, photography is not about snapping pictures, it's about life and passion, barrowed time and unforgettable moments, expression and representation. Photography for me about telling a story. Photography is my art, my outlet, my life. "- Bonnie Crawford
I love photography because of the feelings and experiences it affords people, and the pure artistry behind it all. I love being able to show a woman her true beauty, or show a family the beauty of their connection. I also love being able to capture the moments that are sometimes missed because the participant is too busy to truly appreciate the greatness of that moment. Photography allows me to express the true myriad of emotions of the human condition. Whether celebrating a woman for who she is, providing a family something they will always remember, a baby's first breath of life, or to show the grief and pain of a loss; photography is expression of reality, and showing that expression through the art of light.
